99 – Global Munchkins

global-muchkins-1Global Munchkins!

This week on the show we have Amber from Global Muchkins! She talks about the travels her family of 7 have taken in the last couple of years, and they don’t plan on slowing down!

Amber talks about how amazing it is to watch the kids learn so much more by traveling than they ever could learn in a text book.
Traveling so often defiantly has it’s downsides, like one of the kids getting sick in Costa Rica or delayed fights.  But Amber says they take it in stride and learn through it all.

One of their favorite family activities is constantly planning where they wanna go next. And they keep a huge map of the world in a central part of their house so it’s easy to look at. Finding new places together they want to visit is so important in getting everyone on the same page. Their goal is simply to travel as much as they can with the budgets they set in place.

Once they decide where they want to go, they will usually use credit card points to pay for flights and then Amber tries to work with companies there. For example, contacting hotels or resorts to work with in exchange for letting them stay for cheap or free. Same with activities. What an awesome way to keep log of your travels and use your blog to travel!

98- 2 Travelling Tots

2-tavelling-tots2 Travelling Tots-

This week on the show we have Mark from 2 Travelling Tots talk to us about all the traveling him and his wife used to do. They didn’t want their kids to stop them from seeing the world so they don’t!

Currently they have an Bed’N’Breakfast in England they work 8-10 months of the year and the other months they set out and see a new part of the world. The next adventure is set for January 2017, they’re headed to India, Thailand and more of SouthEast Asia with their 2 boys who will be 4 & 1.

The kids do great while traveling. Mark thinks it’s because they’ve gotten used to it. The more often they go the more normal it seems. They adjust amazingly! He also talks about great ways to catalog all the places the kids have gone to, so when they’re more grown they can see all the places they’ve experience. Listen to the show to learn more!

97- Plan Simple Meals

plan-simple-meals97- Mia Moran from Plan Simple Meals

Mia and her family are living in Boston, in a fast-paced world. So much of work and life is staring at a computer screen- a never ending cycle making it hard to step back for a bit. Making is hard to take a break. Sound familiar?

The idea of “taking a break” has been slowly evolving in their house and Mia wanted it to work out to be their reality. They talked it though. Slowly got the whole family on board. Made it feel like a team effort. Only then it started feeling more real. The more they shared they’re idea of taking time off, they realized it was possible! It’s not a crazy as it seems.

A couple years before all this,  Mia reached a tipping point and began a journey of discovering the importance of healthy eating. The  significance of what you are putting in your body is HUGE! It’s especially important when you’re traveling and on the move. She talks about the “classic” food coma that comes from eating a big heavy meal, how taxing it is on your body to eat the way we do. She’s since then began eating a Raw Vegan Diet and has never felt better!!

After hours of her time researching and learning, She’s created an awesome website and community on Facebook to make healthy meal planning much more doable for everyday living. And just came out with her first book!!

So combining the book tour and wanting to get out and travel with the Family. Their embarking on their own kind of adventure. Part-Book-Tour. Part-Family-Travel. How amazing to see 2 things work together to perfectly! Mia said when budgeting for the trip she was realizing that once you’re out there and traveling, you stop doing so many of the commitments you’re involved in now that cost money.

We’re excited to do a follow up interview a few months from now and hear how life is from the road!

96 – Where We Roam

Where We RoamWhere We Roam!

After a series of life events, Scott and Emily kinda felt they were being pushed toward traveling in a big way. They came up with the idea to spend 12 months in 12 countries, wanting to live like a native of that country. Curious to explore the world and learn what it would be like to live in the country and not just “tour” it.

They said it was enlightening to see how others live and enjoy the small details in everyday life while living out of 36 Liter backpacks. However, right before they left on the trip they got pregnant. So they pushed off the trip just until after the baby was born and then head out!! They relied hugely on Airline Miles and ending up flying all their major flights with points they had earned.  Scott goes into great details about using airline miles on their blog –> here!

Emily says it’s fun now to look back and see the milestones that her daughter is reaching compared to their son. Like first foods in Thailand, first starting walking in England, etc

Once they got back to the States they didn’t just jump back into a “white- picked- fence- Life” like they thought they would when they were traveling. They decided to see a bit more of the States while they were in the traveling mode when an old city bus kinda fell into their laps. They had fun renovating and are now enjoying life on the road!!

Show Notes:

WEBSITE here is filled with info on their 12c in 12m. And you can also follow them along on their bus adventure! Emily keeps us a beautiful INSTAGRAM and you can follow on FACEBOOK

94 – Trina Shultz in S. Asia

Family trip to ThailandSouth Asia Adventure-

This episode if very exciting for us….We had our first guest doing a SECOND interview! Trina Shultz, who took a trip with her kids to Costa Rica back in Episode 36, just got back from a huge trip for 3 months over to SouthEast Asia!

Trina shares so much about their travels throughout Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. Traveling with only their backpacks full of gear, they rode lots of local transportation to get around which made for some exciting experiences! Between long train rides, border crossings and an elephant sanctuary, this trip turned out to have plenty of adventure along the way.

3/4 of them are vegetarians, so finding food without meat was a must but proved to be pretty challenging! I guess it added to the whole adventure. Though they had many ups and downs, the lessons they learned while traveling, she says, only got them more prepared for the next trip!

Can’t wait to see where they visit next and hear about it on their next podcast episode :)
